Abstract

The new ligand, pyruvic aldehyde-1-oxime ethylthiosemicarbazone (PAO-ETSC) was synthesized several times in different solvents: isopropanol, a mixture of 50/50 ethanol and water, and once again in 1% aqueous acetic acid. After synthesis, each product was analyzed by 1H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectrometry (NMR), 13C NMR, 1H13C HSQC, and 1H15N HSQC. We have determined that the thiosemicarbazone compound when synthesized in different solvents exhibits different conformations based on the NMR spectra. When synthesized in 1% aqueous acetic acid, one conformation predominates. This presentation speculates on the structure of the different conformations produced in this research.
