Abstract

This is part of an ongoing research project to develop anti-cancer drugs that inhibit topoisomerase. In this project we reacted 4-methyl-3-thiosemicarbazide, 4-ethyl-3-thiosemicarbazide, 4-benzyl-3-thiosemicarbazide and 4-phenyl-3-thiosemicarbazide with 2-acetyl thiazole to form ATZ-MTSC, ATZ-ETSC, ATZ-BzTSC, and ATZ-PTSC, respectively. These compounds were then reacted with the palladium starting material, dichlorobis(benzonitrile)palladium(II), to form our new metal complexes which have the general formula [Pd(ATZ-TSC)Cl]. Our postulated structures are confirmed by our NMR data. In the future, we hope to test the new palladium complexes topoisomerase inhibition abilities.
