Abstract

The antimicrobial and anti-cancer activity of thiosemicarbazones complexed with various metals has been previously studied and documented. To this end, this poster will show the synthesis and analysis of three 4-ethyl-3-thiosemicarbazones that were synthesized using 2-acetylpyrazine, 2-acetyl-3-methylpyrazine, and 2-acetyl-3-ethylpyrazine substrates. 1H NMR spectroscopy was used in order to characterize these compounds.  The APZ-ETSC, AMPZ-ETSC, and AEPZ-ETSC compounds were tested by determining the minimum inhibitory concentrations needed to deter growth against four bacteria (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa), two yeast (Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae), and one mold (Aspergillus niger).
