Abstract

This won best undergraduate paper for English.

Written for Dr. Kristen Deiter's ENGL 3000 course in Fall of 2016, "'The Weaker Vessels': The Perpetuation of Traditional Gender Roles in the Patriarchal Society of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet" analyzes the classic play using feminist critical techniques.

The essay cites evidence from Romeo and Juliet as well as six scholarly sources to demonstrate that the stereotypical gender roles depicted in the play prove restrictive and detrimental to all the characters, both male and female.
