Abstract

This won best undergraduate poster for Art, Craft, and Design

Environmental Graphic Design involves all aspects of wayfinding and visual communication, with the goal of connecting people and place. Redesigning BNA’s wayfinding signage serves as the perfect case study for our research of EGD. For my research, I studied photographs of BNA’s wayfinding signage system that were provided to the class. By analyzing that information, I was able to determine what problems the signage had, and create design solutions to those problems. Before beginning the design process, I investigated examples of successful wayfinding design, which helped guide me through my own documentation process. Using divergent thinking skills I was able to simplify BNA’s wayfinding signage system, making BNA a more easily navigable environment for its travelers. To fix the issue of hard-to-read, cluttered, dark signage, I selected new color schemes, font choices, and materials that would better suit BNA’s vision for the future.
